Alpha is a course specially designed
for people who want to find out about the beliefs of the Christian faith
or who want to understand the basic facts about what Christians believe.
Questions people ask about Christianity include some of the following:
-
Who was Jesus?
-
What is the meaning
of life?
-
What do Christians
believe?
-
What about other
religions?
-
How can I believe
in a God when he never seems to stop wars and suffering?
The Alpha course aims to answer these
and many other questions by means of 10 sessions which have the following
general headings:
-
Week 1 - Who is
Jesus?
-
Week 2 - Why did
Jesus die?
-
Week 3 - How can I
be Sure of my Faith?
-
Week 4 - Why and
How should I Read the Bible?
-
Week 5 - Why and
How do I Pray?
-
Week 6 - How does
God Guide us?
-
Week 7 - How can I
Resist Evil?
-
Week 8 - Why and
How should we Tell Others?
-
Week 9 - Does God
heal today?
-
Week 10 - What
about the Church?
Each week starts with a meal and then there is a talk
relating to the topic for that week. After this there is time for
discussion about the material that has been presented and there is a time
to ask questions. If you have a burning question that you want answered,
but cannot see which session covers it, then come along anyway. The
discussion leaders will endeavour to give you an answer to your question
by the end of the course.
The course was originally
developed by Holy Trinity Brompton, an Anglican church located in West
Kensington, in London from where
the course is still co-ordinated. Holy Trinity also run many Alpha courses
of their own. You may like to visit the main Alpha
website at uk.alpha.org
for more information on Alpha courses throughout the UK or alpha.org
for details of courses running internationally.
Christ Church will be running an Alpha
courses this year, commencing in
October 2007, and may be running other courses during the spring/summer. If you are interested in joining one
of our courses then please check for details on the Alpha
at Christ Church page or contact the church office.
